This Thing contains all the parts for the "Compass Twist-Up" game, a fun way to practice compass directions, memory, and physical flexibility. This game has been used as an inter-patrol competition in a Scout troop with great success. These instructions are on the included PDF:
Compass Twist-Up:
- Players stand two arms lengths apart
- Remind players which way is North, like "North is toward the back wall"
- Repeat the following until only 1 player is left:
Roll both dice and call out, like "Left foot, South West"
Players adjust to point each body part in the latest direction called for that body part
Roving leaders inspect each player: anyone who has any body part pointed in the wrong direction is "out"
- Leaders track the correct directions by placing body part tokens on the compass sheet
- When it's down to just a few experts who don't make mistakes, add difficulty by blindfolding them.
