Place them 30 cm apart, and put a scented item, like a tea bag, in one box. Ask your dog to sniff an empty box, then move on to the next. When they find the scented box, reward them with a treat or petting. Repeat this process, changing the box order. Your dog will soon associate the scent with a reward and eagerly search for it.
