Unfortunately indicated extruder temperature generally does not reflect the actual extruder temperature at the nozzle. In fact the disparity between the two in the case of my printer exceeds 30 degrees and fluctuates drastically as filament feed-rate varies during the printing process. I can only guess the actual temp at the nozzle.
This is a common problem granted, but my experience has been that the right temperature, a measurement acquired through trial-and-error, is good only for a given profile, i.e. material, layer height, speed, etc. on a specific printer.
So, this is my new tool to combat that problem. I print each tower using just a skirt so for your slicer layer/temp setup, the steps are 10mm high each. Hollow with 0% infill and single width walls is all you need to get a good gage of where you need your temperature to be.
