I use a lot of D1 Mini microcontrollers, and these days I usually solder my projects to perfboards. When I have room for it, I like to mount the D1 Mini on a socket so it can easily be swapped. This simple model helps me to very quickly solder the sockets onto the perfboard. Where I previously would have added the sockets and taped them so they don't fall out before the first connection is made, the slots in this model give perfect height and alignment to solder the socket it. This is only really helpful if you solder several sockets at once or frequently find yourself doing it. If you're only doing it a single time, I recommend painters tape.
