This is a slow work in progress of a desktop vise (I always want to spell it vice, lol). This vise will allow for a tension grip using springs as well as a firm grip. It has a large wheel to rotate the arms into position and it meant to use some generally simple various hardware parts and be 3d printed.

The base is hollow to allow for something heavy to be added to it like possibly sand or lead.

I have printed smaller sections of it for testing, but have not yet printed nor tested the complete working model. The ball and shell portion above the neck currently struggle to have enough friction to hold things in place and will need to be reworked or something will need to be added (maybe a different printing material than PLA).

The hardware here is the metal rod used for the outer slides, the long driving screw, the 2 tension springs, and the neck tensioning bolt. The neck tensions bolt also uses a nut, and the drive screw uses 2 nuts to secure the position of the drive screw a
