I like to draw technical sketches. On my work I have the possibility to draw digitally with a Microsoft Surface. Unfortunately, I lacked functions how to quickly activate full screen and e.g. to rotate the drawing sheet. I have looked at various devices, such as a Microsoft Dial and Griffin PowerMate. I decided to build a small USB device myself, with which I can use keyboard shortcuts of the drawing software (Autodesk Sketchbook) or others like Photoshop. With the help of a Teensy 3.2 I was able to implement this project quickly. It offers the possibility to simulate a standard keyboard. I printed most of the parts in 3D. The only part made of aluminium is the lid on top. The part I still had from an old LED spot housing. Of course, this can also be made from 3D printing. For the more beautiful look I have built an LED ring with diffuser. The encoder comes from Adafruit.com. The encoder knob from farnell.de.
