I find that the wire I buy for my electronics projects is often wound too tightly, too loosely, or on a very poor-quality spool. Use this handy enclosed wire spool to hold wire of any size. This one says "30 Gauge" on the top, but you can easily re-label it if you want to. The lid press-fits onto the top, and you can use one 4-40x 3/8" screw to hold it extra securely in place.
This spool is especially good for use in a tool bag or traveling toolkit because the wire is protected and held in one place instead of being exposed to other things that may be knocking around in your kit. Plus, its thick walls make it pretty much indestructible.
