Dog proof pull out trash lock

My dogs are too smart for their own good. They figured out how to open the under counter pull out trash container. Every time we had chicken wings they would open the trash and spread the contents all over the house. - I tried a baby lock that you can open the trash can then you push it down and it releases, they figured it out and got it open. I put a chair in front of it, they figured it out and got it open. So, I took on the challenge to keep them out of there. I designed this latch with the idea that the dog can push the latch down but not easily lift it up. I also didn't want to make too many holes in cupboard door so I designed it to fit on the screw that holds the knob. The stop is dual purpose, it stops the latch opening too far and it gives you a place to hook the spazzy band to give tension to the latch. This should work with most under counter set ups. You just have to be careful to ensure that the latch mechanism hooks under the door opening.
