Drinks Coasters, Placemats & Co from recycled floor panel scraps
The expensive offcuts left over from laying cork-backed floor panels can be recycled as coasters and placemats. The material is well suited for this since it is waterproof, heat resistant and does not slide around on smooth surfaces.
To make the result more attractive, I printed frames using PLA and glued the prepared squares of flooring material into them. In the examples shown here, I cut squares of 20 cm, 11 cm and 10 cm. The wood squares should fit snugly into the frames and be glued with waterproof adhesive.
To deal with the tolerances involved, I found it easiest to print all of the frames I wanted first and then to cut the wood on a chop saw after measuring the exact size of the prints. Once I found the size that fitted properly, I put stops on the chop saw and cut the rest of the wood squares to the same size.
