I use my Macbook Air for 95% of my work, I need my Thinkpad X220 for rare Windows only apps that are mostly astronomy related.
I wanted a clean place to keep both laptops when they're plugged in at my desktop and connected to the monitor/keyboard/mouse.
I designed this modern, 3D printed meets old world wood working laptop stand in Tinkercad to meet my needs.
The design is based around 1x8 common boards from Home Depot. I sanded them, wipe on poly, then used thin wood screws to secure them into the holes built into the design.
The single hole on the rear near the top provides some longitudinal stability by bracing the rear of the print into the solid wood on top, which limits flex when a heavy laptop is placed on the top board.
I then used 3M grip rubber with adhesive on the back and made little feet for it so it wont slide around on the desk.
I also did an epoxy fillet around the base of the cable management brackets. I learned that trick from model rocketry as a m
