DVD Shelf Speaker Stand

I decided to sketch up (pun intended) an idea I have been kicking around in my head for a DVD holding shelf that would also work as a speaker stand for my living room sound setup.

The idea was that the shelf could hold DVD cases either upright or on their side (it turns out around 12 standard DVD cases make a nice square block that fits into a 20cm square hole. with finger room to spare.)

The front shelves are 16cm deep, meaning there is just the right amount of depth for DVD cases and box sets. The side shelves are 20 x 20 x 21.5, meaning they are a bit deeper than optimal, but the design was to use 15mm plywood or other standard material to build with, so that's just how it ends up.

I am also considering making the side shelf 41.5cm tall, 20cm wide and 21.5cm deep and use it for something else. Or putting a wood, glass or plexi door on there... Lot's of ideas for this one.
