At school we all used a ruler to improvise a bass, so I tried to emulate that. I took inspiration from guitar frets and added a bit of style. Hold it firmly against a hard surface and start to gently pound a beat out of it! The sound is created by the vibrations of the free swinging part traveling into the surface you are holding it against. By sliding the bass back and forth you can create different sounds, depending on the length of the vibrating part.I tried different sizes and thicknesses, but eventually settled on a standard 3mm thickness. It turns out that the choice of filament has a much greater effect on the sound. Try out different surfaces, try solid and hollow - different materials also transfer the vibrations differently.Enjoy! And don't annoy your mates too much.Boost MeThe process of designing this left me and my kids with about 20 of these things. I don't know when they will stop but right now I regret making them lol
