Elvis Aaron Presley was born on January 8, 1935, in Tupelo, Mississippi. He was the son of Vernon and Gladys Presley and had a twin brother, Jesse Garon, who was stillborn. Growing up in a poor family during the Great Depression, Elvis was exposed to music at an early age, particularly gospel music from the Assembly of God church his family attended.
