I'm using these chains: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2920060 and I got tired of my chains and cables flopping in the wind near the extruder motor, so I decided to whip this up.
It snaps onto the bottom of the extruder stepper motor and supports the Z axis chain from the rear and the X axis chain between the extruder motor and the extruder.
The tall part should be closest to the X axis bar, and gets held down to the extruder motor mount plate by that corner screw.
A couple of notes:
1) Yes, I've upgraded to the all-aluminum geared extruder; it helps a LOT with keeping clogs out of the all-metal hotend, and provides a much smoother feed, IMHO.
2) Yes, I rotated the extruder 90 degrees clockwise, so the input (from the spool) is at the back of the machine and the output bowden comes out towards the front of the machine. This gave me an easy way to avoid the Z screw.
This "Thing" should work for you whether you're using the original extruder or not, and whether you've rot
