Is it sometimes uncomfortable? Did you ever wonder why? Do your fingers get sore from having to exert pressure to hold the book? Does the book dig into you hand between your thumb and index finger? THE PROBLEM I usually read holding my book with one hand but find it gets uncomfortable after a while. After some reflection, it became evident why. The laws of physics were working against me. Lever effect We hold the book at its base pinching it to prevent it from falling. This is the worst place to hold a book. This is the classic lever effect with force multiplier. Think of a crowbar or a hammer removing a nail. Well, our fingers are in the position of the nail. Pressure concentration The base of the book rests between our thumb and index finger.
