Sometimes you need more precision … You can find plenty of “precision” engineering tools on AliExpress, but the build quality is often a gamble (you get what you pay for - with plenty of bargains to be had). I wanted a proper precision machinist’s level, but I wasn’t willing to spend $300+ on a name‑brand unit - this isn’t for mission‑critical work. With some reworking and cleanup, though, I managed to get this 150 mm inexpensive one performing accurately in the axis that matters. I’ve calibrated it to spec as far as I can tell. When this thing says level, you can be confident gravity is pointing exactly 90° straight down.During that process, I realised the included grips - shown beside the level in the thumbnails - were pretty poor quality. With the level weighing 1.3 kg and getting a lot of handling during calibration, it was obvious they could be improved.
