I have several 3D printers and I needed some way of easily transferring filament from one spool to another so that two (or more) printers could be printing from the same spool of filament. I use Hatchbox brand filament and their hub design makes this pretty easy.
I used a 1/4x20 threaded rod, nuts and washers to make the drive shaft and a wing nut to secure the empty spool to the shaft. Any drill can be used that can handle a 1/4 inch drill. I used a bench vise to hold a standard spool holder for the full spool. It works well and is quick to transfer the filament. It also takes up very little room to store when not in use.
Use at least 50% infill and 2mm shell to print.
Enjoy!
