FLANGE COUPLING

A **flange coupling** is a mechanical device used to connect two shafts for transmitting torque and rotational motion. It consists of two flanges, each mounted on the end of a shaft, which are bolted together to form a rigid connection. A key and keyway ensure proper alignment and prevent slippage between the shaft and flange. Flange couplings are commonly used in applications requiring high torque transfer, such as in pumps and motors. They are available in different types, including unprotected, protected, and marine types, depending on the application. While they are simple, strong, and easy to assemble, they do not accommodate misalignment or absorb vibrations.
