Fruit Fly Trap – No Multicolor Printer Needed

A simple, reusable 3D-printed fruit fly trap that leverages insect behavior for maximum effectiveness. Designed to work with a standard 1 oz portion cup and assembled from separately printed colored parts — no multicolor printer required. Print, assemble, add lure, and watch it work.
How It Works – Exploiting Insect Behavior:
1) Phototaxis: The yellow and green color scheme visually lures fruit flies. The peepholes on the bottom of the trap not only allow inspection without opening the trap, but light penetrating from bottom draws flies downward, away from the exit. The calyx (green leaves on top with piece of stem) block direct light from top making the entrance darker than bottom. 👉 Want to turbo-charge your trap? Add a small blue LED underneath — insects are surprisingly attracted to blue light.
2) Chemotaxis: The scented lure attracts flies through smell. Effective options include diluted vinegar, fruit juice, wine, or a combination of these. Flies are drawn to weak alcohol and
