A simple retractable stand for the Yaesu FT817/FT818 based on a design seen on eBay.
I was planning to CNC machine this out of 2mm aluminium plate but I created a 3D print to test tolerances and it works that well I will probably leave as is.
Print two pairs of legs and washers. Remove the strap brackets from the FT817 and sandwich one washer and leg between the removed bracket and the rig. The orientation should be obvious. I would also recommend adding some additional commercial nylon washers on either side of the 3D printed parts to reduce rotational friction, but it is not that critical.
In addition to the prints you will require eight optional nylon washers plus four M2.5 x 8 or M2.5x10 depending on the thickness of the washers. Make sure the screws you use are not too long or you risk fouling the internal PCB’s.
