This is a fully functional M3 hex nut. The threads were designed to mate with screws with ISO M coarse thread profile. This was done as an experiment to test the possibility of printing threads with such a small pitch. I hypothesized that it would not work and that the screw would simply act as a tap. I printed one, and it works! This result was surprising. Since publishing this thing, I have repeated the experiment with success. I even cut a cross section of a print to observe the threads. Of course they are not perfectly ISO compliant, but they do follow the profile enough to function with ISO compliant threads.

This makes a good experiment print to test the limitations of your printer.
