I purchased inexpensive FX plc's (less than $3 each, e-bay?) but they were bare. They sell with a protective case between $25-$50. I purchased plastic din mounts (attached picture) and printed this transition piece to go between the mount and the board.
I used #6-32 FHCS to mount the transition to the din holder and #4-40 to mount the board to the transition. The holes are offset for easier removal from the din rail.
I plan to purchase more bare board components to play with and hopefully change the spread of the board attachment holes. I did this in Fusion and attached the Fusion file if you wish to modify it or just look what I did (nothing real exciting 5 sketches and 4 features).
I have done some fun stuff with these boards: a timer at a comedy club, a press for aero coffee, aluminum can crusher. Probably a good learning tool for a kid wanting to learn controls.
