I have a Geeetech printer, heavily modified, but I always used the original spool holder as I mostly used to print with the same color till the end of the spool. Now I find myself changing often from PLA to PTU and the old way I had it setup became a bit annoying so I came up with this modification that allows me to quickly change the spool without having to release the clamps that held the axle in place.
My Geeetech is an I3W, plywood version.
The modification is very simple, it consists of two cores that fit in the standard holder's bigger holes, fixed with 4 little tapping screws and 4 right angle plates to keep the vertical plates "vertical" (the original holder is a good support but long from having squared sides and bottom.
I cut the axle for the spool at the exact measure and it just fits perfectly in and out without any extra clamps.
My axle is 8mm in diameter but you can choose a different size in the customizer.
