I love my Geeetch i3 acrylic printer which I lovingly assembled from a kit. However, one of the things which was a little disappointing was the spool holder which frankly, looks like a bit of an afterthought and is distinctly, “Heath Robinson”. The latest Geeetech spool of PLA which recently arrived doesn’t even fit because when in the holder, the bottom touches the base and doesn’t move round freely.
I have therefore designed this shiny new spool holder. It has a little base plate that can optionally be screwed to the base to stop the holder sliding around relative to the printer.
It was printed without supports (it doesn’t need any) and no raft. One end of the shaft I glued on using Araldite. (I did think about making the shaft all-in-one but that would have been a bit of a support nightmare so the glue-on option won the day).
You will also see I have published a replacement console for the Geeetch, also available on Thingiverse.
