Specifications: mass is 554 grams original part mass was 2051.66 grams reduction of 73% FOS: between 1.2 and 1.7 depending on load condition. Simulation Relults: loading condition 1 max stress is 99ksi loading condition 2 max stress is 105.2ksi loading condition 3 max stress is 106.9ksi Constraints: The constraints used were a fixed geometry relation on the bolt head surface areas only as i believe this gives the most accurate results. Design: the original design idea behind this part was to try and evolve my previous entry of a two piece part while overcoming the vertical loading which is the toughest test and allow the part to have a FOS of about 1.5 while still being fairly light. The finalized design is not a two piece as originally hoped as the stress was just too much but it works well on the vertical loading, but of course because i was designing to this loading condition the other loading conditions creeped up a bit although still fairly well below the 130 ksi. if i get time before the end of the competition i will be trying to make this design as light as possible as there is some places on the part where material can be removed without adversely affecting the part too much. PS. the torsional loading condition 4 is not done as i haven't a clue how to do it as i am still only in college and pretty new to solidworks.
