I start a new series. The series will consist of a large number of issues, but new releases will not appear too often. I need time to study algorithms and prepare the examples. Introducing the new mascot for the series: Meet dimetrodon! We will still be needed (See 'Mesh to solid'): Rhino(Grasshopper), t-splines (or analogs). We'll start with the built-in tools of Autodesk Inventor (Solidworks). We consider console beam with square section. One end of a beam rigidly fixed at the other end load is applied. Shape is not optimal from point of view resistance to bending stresses. Autodesk Shape generator removes excess material and offers an optimized shape. The bad news is that it can offer the part as mesh (STL). By using component Cocoon (Grasshopper) we can smooth out surface (there are many options depending on the parameters). Then convert mesh to the surface (t-splines). As a result, the optimum part transformed into the solid and is suitable for further work. Useful links for this issue 1.
