Here is a simple H pattern shifter for racing and trucking simulators. Also includes an optional handbrake.

Hardware needed:
+ M3 screws, about 15 mm, about 20 pieces
+ Arduino Micro or Leonardo (or other gamepad device)
+ A rubber band
+ Microswitches with long feelers (Ebay: "long lever microswitch")
+ Desk clamps (Ebay: "cantilever clamp")
1. Print one of each piece, and two of front_and_back_plate.stl
2. Attach shifter_joint to shifter_stick, and shifter_joint to box_base
3. Glue switches on to front and back plate. Solder grounds to each other and to the microcontroller ground. Solder NO pins to pins 2-10 of the arduino.
4. Screw front and back plates on to box_base
5. Hook up rubber band
6. Screw top plate on, attach knob
7. Upload sketch to arduino
