These are Harry Potter–inspired silhouette bookends depicting the iconic Platform 9¾ moment, reimagined as sturdy, functional 3D-printable book holders.
The original objects that inspired this model were lightweight plastic bookends with a flat silhouette design. While visually appealing, they lacked structural strength. This project started by tracing that silhouette, converting it to SVG, and then re-engineering the geometry for additive manufacturing, with an emphasis on rigidity, balance, and real-world usability.
The result is a matched pair of bookends that:
• preserve the instantly recognizable silhouette scene
• add thickness, mass, and vertical back plates for strength
• distribute load properly to prevent flexing or tipping
• are suitable for everyday use with real books, not just decoration
The silhouettes remain clean and readable even after extrusion, keeping the minimalist aesthetic while dramatically improving durability.
