This is my concept for a novel hull that minimizes resistance through the use of what I call "Hydrofoil Assisted Technology" (HAT). Now, I am not a naval architect nor do I possess the knowledge or skill set to properly optimize the hull so my submitted results will not be accurate. The idea here is to use a system of hydrofoils on the hull optimized for 20kts that reduces the waterline or draft thereby reduce the friction of the water on the hull. By creating a lifting force at speed, the effective displacement of the ship will be lowered thus increasing speed and efficiency and lowering shaft power and fuel consumption. The hull has to be optimized with the hydrofoils in mind so that they compliment each other to minimize drag and maintain stability. I started with a standard optimized RORO hull then added a fore and aft hydrofoil and then worked from there. This concept is not a full hydrofoil because the vessel is too large and heavy and also isn't fast enough to achieve takeoff. The hydrofoils also don't protrude too far from the sides of the hull to restrict docking capabilities although they could be made larger to be more effective and retractable for dock-ability. It would perhaps be considered a partial hydrofoil hence my naming, 'Hydrofoil Assisted Technology'. Thanks to Stena Teknik for this opportunity and I hope they consider my concept.
