In this video I will show you how to build the heat set press I designed to embed threaded brass inserts into 3D printed plastic parts. The purpose of using threaded brass inserts is to increase the strength of the threaded screw connection of the part. The plastic is melted around the brass insert and the tear out strength is increased. Additionally, the metal insert makes threading bolts/screws easier and there is less of a chance of damaging the plastic part if the bolt/screw is frequently used.
The entire build is centered around a 25 series piece of aluminum extrusion from 8020. This versatile T-slot profile gives us endless possibilities to design around.
