The sculptor Alcamenes was active in Athens from 430 to 400 BC. One of his creations is teh Hecate Epipyrgidia (Hecate on the Acropolis), a threefold figure of the goddess. Hecate is the goddess with power over moments of transistion, such as the birth of a child. She was also associated with forks in the road, cemeteries, and city gates. On the Acropolis, she marked the transition from the sacred hill to the rest of the city.
