I was approached by a parent whose son had undergone surgery for bone cancer in his leg. Due to the titanium implant in his leg, one leg grows faster than the other. After complaining that the wedge prescribed to him by the physical therapist was too short and didn't allow his foot to stay level, the parent requested for me to redesign the wooden block to be a centimeter taller.
After scanning, measuring, and redesigning in Fusion360, I raised the height of the wedge by a centimeter while maintaining the correct length and width. After printing the parent took the 3D print to the physical therapist for approval. The physical therapist was impressed by how the original design was maintained yet it seemed to be professionally adjusted. Not bad for my first functional design.
I'm thinking about getting into OpenSCAD and perhaps coding a parametric program to assist patients awaiting a customized foot wedge.
