I wanted to print on the face so I could highlight the text. However, there are a few challenges:
1) The base doesn’t extend to be even with the letters and hangs in mid air
2) Printing on the face is problematic because of each letter’s small bonding footprint … especially the punctuation marks.
To print this I did the following
- Added permanent support for the base
- I noticed that things tend to break off during the fill so I avoided fill altogether. 0% fill, high perimeter. I maxed it out, but maybe 4 or 5 would do it.
- Printed at a higher temp to minimize pull on the extruded part
- Paused the print in the middle and used a pen extruder to bond fragile parts together. You could also do this by modifying the stl file, but I don’t know how to do that.
- Printed at 50% normal speed
- Don't scale the model down. That makes the small bonding footprint even worse.
- Don't use a brim. I tried that and it's a cleaning nightmare! :-)
