Inspired by this thing http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1359419 and this thing http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1067052, I set out to make my own dry-box that was able to fit my FoxSmart filament spools. They have a much small inner diameter hole than most spools out there.
This thing is able to fit spools with an inner diameter of 32mm (FoxSmart and similar) up to 52.5mm (MakerBot and similar). The nut must be resized according to your printers tolerances as it is an exact fit. I scaled mine up by 0.052% and it worked flawlessly. The core/screw is meant to have two 608zz bearings press fitted into place. The inlet for the filament is designed to have a foam filter to clean the filament as it is fed, but is only optional.
The base comes from the Vertex K8400 3D printer, and can be found here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1450175. I have also included it with this thing for convenience.
3/15/2017 Update: I have now added a modified nut to secure larger spool hole diameters
