Played with a rotary version and deciided to get more accurate and verify linear before more time is spent.
This is the beginnings, - magnet areas have been made but they are 'ferrite' ceramic - purchased from harbor freight, 1 7/8" x 3/8" thick .
If linear concept verifies then you can progress to rotary. The idea is you place the magnets in the slots and put metal plate (highly permeable magnetic material) underneath, N faces up , S pole is touching plate.
(Picture 1 is of a later rotary attempt. The forces were too strong for the yogurt container as it flexed .. also on the can, it is difficult to measure increasing increments for magnet placement
(clothespin picture shows the ease of demonstration - watned familiar objects and KISS principle - you take another magnet adn move it past the round neo mag and you can get easy spin, perhapss over 1 dozen revs with a good, strong, nearby 'flick')
-+scan of mag pckg specs- 3 # pull force woo-hoo .. -- still alot less strength
