This is a replacement part for what HP calls "guide pins", used in their quick deploy rail kits to hook into square or unthreaded holes in 19" racks. In some cases, aftermarket rails come without these pins (mainly due to the rails having been used in threaded hole 19" racks, and the original pins being lost).
HP, unfortunately, doesn't sell these separately, and they're hard to come by from both part dealers and aftermarket sellers.
It should go without saying that since this is a plastic part replacing a metal part, it can never be as reliable as the original. It should, however, do for hobbyist use where the tradeoff is acceptable.
