This is an alignment and lay out jig for making a hybrid oak and stainless-steel barrel for aging spirits and or beer/wine. This is meant for a 8.25 quart bain marie. The inner diameter of the jig is the diameter of the 8.25 quart bain marie. The flat side of the jig can be used to determine what orientation your staves should be in order to try and keep the imperfections on the outside of the finished barrel head. Knots and cracks could be potential leak sites so trying to keep them outside the finished circle is best. You can also use this side of the jig to mark where the center of your circle will be. This is helpful when placing the hole for jigs that are used to cut the circle. Its nice to be able to visualize this with this jig. The other side of the jig has 2 tabs that center the jig on the finished circle once it has been cut. The center line of the jig allows you to mark where the spigot and or bung hole will be cut.
