After making a rubber stamp for our local MakeSpace, I got the idea to take their logo and make a 3D model of it. This is part of my continuing exploration of DesignSpark Mechanical - which I'm pretty sure will be my goto program for 3D modelling of parts for CNC milling and 3D printing.
The cube was intentionally modeled to NOT be a square cube. I squashed the height down so that the strut angles would not all be 90 degrees. My thinking was that this might make it easier to print since it would avoid perfectly horizontal struts when I tilted it up on the corner.
I printed this in ABS with no supports at 75% original scale. It was a little tricky because the cube struts had a tendency to curl slightly. It might print better in PLA.
I set Slic3r to automatically slow the speed down to 5mm/sec on the perimeters of the strut layers. Not sure if that helped or hurt.
DesignSpark .rsdoc model included.
