This is a laser cutting pattern designed by myself as a way to play Shogi without Japanese literacy. While each piece has its original Japanese name on the lower end, the center of the piece instead has a symbol composed of circles which acts as a diagram depicting piece movement. The hollow circle is a piece's starting position while each solid dot is where that piece is allowed to move in relation to the starting position. A tear drop instead signifies that a piece can move one or more spaces in that direction. Promotions are shown in the corners of non-promoted pieces before being flipped over, and vice-versa. Pieces which cannot promote will have blank corners.
I have provided both .dxf and .svg files. Those which share the same name are the same layout in a different format.
If you would like to know how to play Shogi, you may learn and download rulebooks from this website: http://ancientchess.com/page/play-shogi.htm
