I have been using my [dog-bone cable ties with rubber bands](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3055268) for years, but the rubber bands age and eventually snap under tension, and it's very irritating. So I took the dog-bone shape and adapted it to use string or yarn instead of rubber bands, and it works well! It kinda looks like a jigsaw piece now, so we called it a JIG-TIE. You can use different colours of string to colour-code your stuff, and you can also tie labels to it easily.
To use this, tie your string to the narrow part of the jig-tie (a [pile hitch](https://www.netknots.com/rope_knots/pile-hitch) or [cow hitch](https://www.netknots.com/rope_knots/cow-hitch) is fine) and wrap the string around the thing you're tying. To end the tie, wrap the string around the narrow part 2-3 times, then wind the string between the overhanging lip of the dog bone and the slit, as shown in the photo.
