During my last visit to the Futurium in Berlin, I discovered an exciting art object, a kind of bowl, made up of an abundance of dodecahedrons, which seemed to kind of roll down within the object like stones roll down a hill. Apparently it was a 3D print. But how did the movement come about?
When trying to take a video of it, I noticed a dark bar crossing the screen that strongly pointed to a synchronization artifact and revealed the secret: a cleverly composed optical illusion created by a strobe light on a spinning object with corresponding structures forming the animation sequences.
