🇬🇧 Description (English) This bust depicts the Spartan king Léonidas Ier, a military leader who became a symbol of courage during the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 BC. Leading a small Greek force, he delayed the advance of the vast Persian army, giving the Greek city-states time to prepare for war. His sacrifice left a lasting mark on ancient history and established him as an enduring emblem of Spartan discipline and honor. As no authentic portrait of Leonidas has survived, this bust is a free interpretation of the historical figure. The facial features are based on what a mature Spartan king and hoplite of the 5th century BC would likely have looked like: an experienced face, controlled beard, and calm yet resolute expression. The goal is therefore not to recreate a known likeness, but to embody a believable historical
