This is a rear drive mechanism for a laser engraver. Nicky Norton (Norton White Tile inventor), Marco Wong (Lightobject), and JB ([email protected]) were working on a similar idea at the same time (early 2020). These files were designed and proven out by JB, he and provided the files me to share the "Thing".
This is shown on Ortur Laser Master 2, but the idea can be extended to any laser engraver
One of the key mechanical problems with a laser engraver is trying to keep both Y rails perfectly parallel so that no artifacts occur. Unlike 3D printers the laser dot size ranges from 0.010mm to 0.08mm requires much higher precision of the machine. Dual motors with mechanically coupled motors adds cost and complexity. A single motor with a shaft controlling a pully on the opposing side (as with the stock Ortur Laser Master Machines LM1, LM2, LM2 Pro) never is perfectly parallel. This ensures balanced loading and torsion of the shaft.
Bill of materials will come later. Thank yo
