If you own a mini lathe, you know immediately what this is for.
For all others: The "mini-lathe" type machines have the chuck attached via a number of threaded studs that go through the spindle and are held by M6 nuts. Unfortunately, there is little space between the spindle and the headstock housing, so mounting these nuts can be rather fiddly.
Conveniently, Alibre Design just added a gear generator function to the script module so in order to try this out, I made this mounting tool. You insert the nut into it, place it behind the stud and can easily screw it on.
I printed it in Prusa silver PLA on a Prusa i3 MK3 printer. Default settings 0.15 mm, no supports. You'll need a 4x12x4 mm ball bearing (604 type), which makes operation much smoother.
Designed with Alibre Design. The gears have modulus 1 (pi mm pitch) which I chose somehow arbitrarily, but work out very well. I increased the gear axis distance by 0.5 mm which gives a looser fit.
For a larger (still experimental vers
