This is a holder for LED ring. I use a 16 LED WS2812 unit which allows colours and levels of each LED to be set independently over a 1 wire interface.

The holder has a central recess which can hold a ESP8266 (ESP-12F) module for controlling the LEDS and a 5V to 3.3V regulator. The 5V powers the ring and the 3.3V is for the ESP-12F.

The base has cut-outs to allow wiring from the side or rear.

A thin cap can be glued on top of the ESP-12F to cover up the electronics.

I connect to a USB rechargeable battery stick which is capable of powering the the unit for about a day (depending on LED activity).

For software I use the excellent McLighting set up which allows changing colours, brightness and patterns to be changed via a web interface supported by the ESP-12F module.
