So I closed up 4 sides of my Lulzbot Mini and restricted the top to a 1.75" slot for access to the filament clamp on the extruder and also obviously to allow an unrestricted path for the filament to the extruder. This modification allows you to close that gap down greatly to retain some heat losses and also to minimize air flow out and hence general air in leakage. I might fine tune this some more to see if I can reduce to two main parts instead of three. The little "locating pins" x4 used on the right hand side allow you to accurately position the RHS to the middle and I then glued together with acetone. I may actually replace these with pins integral to one or other part if I stay with 3 parts as these pins are delicate at the collet end. The "stiff clamps" x4 between the middle and LHS parts allow you to replace filaments easily - they are a little hard to put on but they do hold the parts together really firmly.
