This is an awesome project to do with your kids. Print with any "natural color" or other translucent light colored PLA. Pick up some of the color changing LED's like these...

The crystal is from youtuber BigClive who did the original design in OpenSCAD. I modified his design slightly by adding a base inside ring to make it less likely to warp.
It is super easy to solder the led's in either a series (like Clive) or in parallel as I did. Parallel does not require each LED to have its own resistor. But you do need a voltage regulator. Then feed it with any old wall transformer 5V-12V and a small adjustable switching regulator like this one...

or any small step down v-reg to adjust to around 3V (adjust to desired brightness)
