The trick works by you first showing how easy it is to slide the ring in and out after doing that a few times, hand it to the audience so they can have a go but before handing it out twist the ring until you hear a click, after they struggle to figure out how you got it on twist the opposite way until you hear a click to unlock and take out the ring.
