As a fun challenge I wanted to see if I was able to render the Mandelbrot fractal as a 3D model in OpenSCAD. It turned out this is possible, and since the result actually looks quite nice, especially with some light from the back, I decided to share this with the community. The OpenSCAD model is included, allowing the model to be customized. You could create bigger or smaller versions, change the resolution or zoom in as far as you like on the details. Customization options are width, depth and height of course, but you can also customize the frame, or entirely leave that out. Finally you can of course customize the part of the set to render by setting the center point and zoom factor. I personally think the area at (0.73, 0.20) is nice to look at at all zoom factors (I tried 0.5, 0.0005, …)
