This is a simple maple sap tap. You can use a 3/8 drill bit about 6" below the largest branch of a maple tree and gently tap the part into the hole with a mallet or hammer. The best time for sap collection is when the days are above freezing but the nights are below. This is a fun way to make your own maple syrup! Simply collect the sap in clean buckets and boil until it's the consistency you want. (About a 40:1 sap to syrup ratio)
